On August 27 there is a rally organised by the Refugee Action Collection to shut the refugee detention centres all over Australia and let the refugees into Australia. There will be speakers like Adam Bandt, Greens MP for Melbourne; Pamela Curr from the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre; Jane Willey, an ex-teacher from Nauru and the author of some of the leaked files from Nauru; and others to be announced.
Since Turnbull tried to get elected (and only technically succeeded), largely on the back of the scare campaign against refugees and Muslims, the pressure needs to be put on the government to close the camps and stop the vilification of muslims.
There is a Facebook Event for the rally. Starting at the State Library of Victoria (328 Swanston Street, City) at 1pm.
